Academic and Behavioral Supports
Teachers work hard to meet the needs of all of their students. Some students need extra support within school whether that is through additional services or support plans.
Academic Support
As the school 504 Coordinator, I am in charge of developing and case managing 504 plans. Section 504 was created as part of the Americans with Disabilities Act which deals with accommodations. These are supports that can be put in place in classrooms to support a student in achieving grade level work. The coordinator creates the 504 plan with stakeholders including parents and guardians and teachers.
I also lead our school Student Support Team. The Student Support Team is a team of school specialists who meet weekly to address concerns about individual students.
If you have concerns about your student, please contact their teacher and/or the school counselor to learn more about the 504 and Student Support Team process.
Behavioral Support
I am also a member of the school Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports team. We plan and coordinate ways to improve school climate and address behavioral expectations.
I work closely with our Behavior Support Aid to develop and implement behavioral interventions for students who need additional help understanding and meeting school expectations. This includes our Self Managers Group. Much like the schoolwide reading intervention program, students are chosen for Self Managers based on behavioral data. Students work through curriculum such as Zones of Regulation to develop self awareness and self management skills.
When students continue to struggle with meeting school expectations, I will often complete Level 1 Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBA's) to create individualized Behavioral Support Plans (BSP's).
If you have questions or concerns about your student's behavior, please speak to your teacher or reach out to the school counselor.
